The Cultural Caravan of Communication

Editorial

The 1st May 2004, the European Union will be enlarged by 10 new countries. The membership of these 10 European countries is indeed a historic moment. After half a century Europe is finally to be reunited.

This unique process of integration in Europe did not happen in one day. Deficiencies still exist and there are shortcomings. However the ambition of the European project that began after the Second World War is high: to build a Europe that respects freedom and the identity of all of the people who compose it. On this way, it is only by uniting its peoples and insuring social cohesion that Europe can control its destiny and develop a positive role in the world.

This historic moment creates unavoidable tasks, possibilities and challenges for the official institutions, but also for the European citizens. Therefore the Cultural Caravan of Communication wants with a symbolic endeavour welcome the new European citizens, and launch a sustainable effort for promoting new ways of cross-cultural communication.

In this order the team of the Cultural Caravan of Communication has started the project May 2004: Destination Europe - Together in Dialogue, which will take place between the 1st and the 9th May 2004, to celebrate the new Europe and to promote friendship, inter-cultural dialogue and social cohesion.

This project involves different partners and has received so far the support of The European Commission (through its delegation in Hungary), of the Austrian Commission for UNESCO and of the Bundesland Niederösterreich.

Project supported by the Delegation of
the European Commission to Hungary

A special website has been created for the project providing a full range of information. This website is also the working tool of our Project Teams made up of international students from the Vienna University of Economics and Business Administration.
